Aspen, Colorado in the 1970s was a Mecca for young people who wanted a different kind of life. PHDs were bricklaying the streets, and then hanging out at the local establishments—one of which was Little Annie’s. This painting was based on a black and white photo I took then. I went to Aspen every year from NYC to clear my head, hike the trails with folks like John Denver, and then attend awesome music concerts at night.
